SCALA

SCALA is a distinctive landmark on the Zuidas, Amsterdam's financial district. Studio RAP won the tender for this project and designs and produces the ceramic experience for the plinth and public passage, creating a dynamic canyon at the building's threshold.

The passage

Richly detailed double-high pilasters rise from the plinth, establishing verticality and depth. They manifest themselves through the passage, shaping how you move through the corner. The result is a warm, powerful design that adds a recognisable corner accent to the closed building block.

Ceramics
The plinth and passage are fully realised in 3D-printed ceramics. During the tender phase, Studio RAP produced physical ceramic prototypes to demonstrate the spatial experience of the design.

About Studio RAP
Studio RAP is a Rotterdam-based team of architects that combines architecture with in-house manufacturing and craftsmanship, bringing bespoke detail back into architectural design. SCALA is one expression of that approach.
